Get the Friday feeling at the hottest spots in town with TfL’s new off-peak train fares
TGIF! It’s time to put the laptop away and head out for some well-earned – and now more affordable – Friday fun.
In case you missed it, this March TfL will be launching a three-month trial of lower, off-peak fares on tubes and trains all day, every Friday – in a bid to get people out and about at the end of the working week and reinvigorate the city’s night time economy.
In recent years, many of us have come to love a cosy evening in, spent with a film and a takeaway, but with these new cheaper rail fares, Friday nights out could be set to make a comeback. And with NHG Homes’ well-connected developments, the fun is never far away.
Kidbrooke Square
In the heart of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, residents at Kidbrooke Square are well placed to explore all that South London has to offer, with Kidbrooke Station right on the doorstep.
The off-peak fare will apply to National Rail services in London too, so for a night of drinks and dancing, skip the taxi and hop on a Southeastern train from Kidbrooke Station to Woolwich Works – an event space named by the prestigious Time Out as “London’s best new culture spot”.
From Kidbrooke Station, you can take a Southeastern train to Lewisham and jump on the DLR to Greenwich market – a much-loved spot with food stalls offering a breadth of cuisines, alongside places to grab a drink or coffee.
Or, take the train slightly further – just 20 minutes – to spend the evening at London Bridge Rooftop Bar, complete with twinkling lights, an in-house DJ and a zesty cocktail menu.
Lampton Parkside
The trial of off-peak Friday rail fares is ideal for residents of Lampton Parkside, where Hounslow Central station is just a five minute walk away.
Residents can hop on the Piccadilly Line directly to Hammersmith to catch a live show at the Eventim Apollo or enjoy a quirky after dinner performance at the Curtain’s Up pub, with its authentic, underground London fringe theatre complete with cinema style seating. Alternatively, head down for a pint and a sunset view from a beer garden at one Hammersmith’s many riverside pubs, such as the popular Blue Anchor.
The fun doesn’t stop there, as the Piccadilly Line can also take residents direct to South Kensington station to enjoy an evening at one of Kensington’s best restaurants.
Whether you wish for your tastebuds to be transported to Spain at Tapas Brindisa or Italy at the instagrammable Daphne’s, the city is open to explore.
Or, for the jetsetters embarking on a spontaneous weekend get-away, save on a taxi to the airport and treat yourself to a pre-flight coffee with trains to Heathrow airport in just 18 minutes.
Heybourne Park
At Heybourne Park, Colindale Station and Mill Hill Broadway station are both within walking distance, so a Friday night on the town in north London has never been easier.
Take a tube less than four stops to experience the bright lights and buzz of Camden where you can find the eclectic mix of markets, cuisines and live music at the infamous Camden Town – the perfect spot for a Friday night boogie!
Even closer, and accessible in a few stops on the Northern Line, are the charming streets of Hampstead and its bars, restaurants and pubs which offer the perfect spot to spend a Friday evening.
